MESSAGE FROM THE EAST Trestleboard, May 2008 Greetings from the East! If you have not, taken a moment and read the message from our Senior Warden. He talks about “participation”. We all know that you only get out of an organization what you put into it. This summer, we have an opportunity for you to participate, and hopefully get more out of your Masonic membership. I have contracted with the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center for a booth at the fair. The fair will be held July 30 and 31, and August 1, 2, & 3. The Central Oregon Masonic family will be operating a Child ID program at that time. You note, I said, the Central Oregon Masonic Family. The fair is open from 10 AM to 10 PM each day on Wednesday through Saturday, and from 10 AM to 5 PM on Sunday. I anticipate it will take 17 people to operate the booth EACH DAY. Very frankly, Redmond Lodge is not large enough to provide the personnel necessary, so I have asked Bend, Prineville and Madras to join us. I also hope the Star and other bodies will help also. It will take 16 people working 4 hour shifts each day, along with a day captain. I hope someone will take charge of each day, line up the shifts, and be sure they know when to be there and what to do. I hope to move my motor home to the fairgrounds, and Darlene and I will be there each day to set up and be sure everything is going according to plan. Another lodge in Oregon did this over a three day period, and did over 500 Child IDs and received 12 new petitions for membership. We will have membership information available, and will be promoting Masonry throughout central Oregon. I see this as a great opportunity for you to participate, and for Oregonians to become more familiar with what we do. . Fraternally, George Trahern, WM
MESSAGE FROM THE WEST | Brethren! While pondering what to write to inspire all of you, I thought of a single word...that word is PARTICIPATE! Webster tells us that it is a verb or action word; to have or take part or share with others. There is nothing in the meaning that says to come once in a while and watch. It says to take part in what is going on. There are many things to help with besides being an officer. I have been working in Bikes for Books and it is a very rewarding program that does take some participation. I know we are not getting any younger, but we must all participate in our Lodge doings if we are to perpetuate the Masonic way of life in our community. With a little effort by all of us, we can bring back to life that way of life in Redmond Lodge. Our meeting in June is coming soon and I will not be able to attend Lodge as I will be at the Annual communication of the Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star in Pendleton. I know the first thought many will think (here he says to participate and he is off somewhere else) well I have other things to participate in too. That is what makes us young. I will see you all this summer as we start a new chapter of participation in our Lodge. Fraternally, Ron Terry, PM, SW
MESSAGE FROM THE SOUTH | Greetings Brethren, I am in the process of registering our Lodge in the Albertson's Community Program. With your Albertson's card, you will be able to link it with the youth program and for every dollar spent, we will receive a check quarterly from Albertsons. As soon as I receive our Community Partner number, I will have it available to all who wish to participate in the program, along with instructions on how to link with your Albertsons card. The money we receive will be used to help fund the Bikes for Books program in the Redmond Schools. It is a great way to raise funds for the youth programs that the Lodge sponsors. When you read this, cut out the inserted flyer and save it for later use when we get registered, which should be soon. Fraternally, Jim Magoon, PM, JW
